Everyone By One

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), all recommend establishing a "Dental Home" for your child by one year of age.

The TPD Approach

  1. The approach begins with getting a child to TPD by Age One (1). Here they learn what a dental practice is all about, and how regular dental checkups actually do rate in importance somewhere between birthday parties and roller coasters. We teach with a method called “tell-show-do” and we tell, show and do very honestly (because kids have a way of seeing through anything less). This instills trust in the doctor-child relationship, and gives the child a vested interest in his or her own health.
  2. Parental presence may be necessary for the first couple of visits, but in time your child will be ready to do it on their own (independence is one of the things we value most around here). And while you sit back and wait comfortably in the front, we’ll be teaching your kids how to properly care for their teeth. Then afterwards, we’ll share those lessons with you, so we’re all on the same page when it comes to keeping your child healthy and happy.
  3. We communicate on every level. Through e-mail, websites, Facebook, Twitter and, of course, the best mode of communication ever invented…talking. We talk about lots of things like nutrition, good and bad oral health habits, or maybe even the score of a football game. But basically, anything and everything that has to do with you child’s overall health is fair game. And don’t apologize for your questions…bring ‘em on. From basic to complex, we try to deliver the answers in an easy, fun, and most importantly, positive manner.
  4. Then we all get together again at least every six months to make sure your child is staying on a healthy track. And by the way, don’t be at all surprised if your kids start looking forward to check ups…stranger things have happened.

(By the way, if your child is 1 year and 2 months, 1 year and 6 months, or even 3 and a half, no worries, its NEVER too late to get started. We love kids of all ages.)
